Hot water from these units use mains pressure to hot water at a similar flow to cold water. The water is heated and stored in a tank which as most commonly placed outside. Once the tank is empty you run out of hot water and need to wait tor the tank to refill with cold water which then has to be heated. The tanks are larger in size and you can still manage a 5 star efficiency rating despite having to heat larger volumes of water. Mains Pressure Hot Water Systems are cheaper to install.

Despite being one of the most reliable hot water systems they are FAST becoming obselete. Gravity Fed Hot Water Systems are most commonly found in the ceiling of older homes or businesses and the water is heated by electricity. They rely on gravity to deliver the hot water which is usually at a much lower pressure and flow rate to the cold water. They are mostly replaced when they start to fail or as people renovate as modern tapware and water saving devices are largely incompatible with gravity fed units.
