Leaking tap and laundry plumbing repairs in Camberwell

August 6, 2026

A homeowner in Camberwell contacted Doherty Plumbing Solutions after discovering several plumbing leaks around their home. Our plumber in Camberwell inspected the problems and found three separate issues — leaking basin taps, a leaking laundry mixer and a leak at the laundry trough waste.

Each problem required a different repair. Our plumber replaced the worn components and faulty fittings to get the plumbing working properly again. For everyday repairs like leaking taps, fixtures and laundry plumbing, our general plumbing service covers homes throughout Melbourne’s Eastern Suburbs.

Quick answer

What plumbing repairs did we complete at this Camberwell home?

The customer had three separate plumbing leaks. We repaired the leaking basin taps by installing new hot and cold ceramic spindles, tap handles and adapters. A leaking laundry mixer was replaced after a faulty cartridge was identified. We also repaired the leaking laundry trough waste after finding that a washing machine hose had become disconnected. All three plumbing problems were addressed during the job.

The plumbing problems

The homeowner reported several issues rather than one isolated leak.

Leaking basin taps

The basin taps were leaking and required new internal components.

Laundry mixer leaking from the handle

The laundry mixer was leaking around the handle. After inspection, the cartridge inside the mixer was found to be faulty.

Leaking laundry trough waste

The customer also had a leak around the laundry trough waste. This was traced to a disconnected washing machine hose and the existing waste connection.

How we repaired the basin taps

We supplied and installed new hot and cold quarter-turn ceramic spindles. New tap handles and adapters were also fitted. This replaced the worn components and stopped the basin taps from leaking.

How we repaired the leaking laundry mixer

Inspection of the laundry mixer identified a faulty cartridge. Rather than leaving the customer with a mixer that could continue leaking, we replaced it with a new Posh Solus Mk2 sink mixer. New flexible hose extensions were used to connect the mixer to the hot and cold stop taps.

How we repaired the laundry trough waste

The laundry trough leak needed a different approach. The washing machine hose had become disconnected from the waste arrangement. We removed the existing waste nipple fitting and connected an S-trap directly to the laundry trough waste. The waste nipple at the trap connection was also opened up so a temporary waste hose could be fitted securely to the trap nipple.

The result

All three reported plumbing issues were repaired. The customer was left with properly functioning basin taps, a new laundry mixer and a repaired laundry waste connection.

This job is a good example of why it can be worthwhile having several small plumbing problems dealt with at the same time rather than allowing individual leaks to continue.

What this Camberwell job shows

Small plumbing leaks can come from very different parts of a home’s plumbing system. A leaking tap may need new internal components. A mixer may have a failed cartridge. A laundry waste leak can be caused by a problem with a hose or waste connection.

The important part is identifying the actual source of each leak rather than assuming every dripping tap or wet cupboard needs the same repair. If a leak is not visible at all, our guide to the signs of a water leak explains what to look for, and leaking pipes remain one of the most common household plumbing problems.

Can repairing leaking taps save water?

Yes. Even a relatively small leak wastes water while it continues. Repairing dripping taps and faulty fixtures can help reduce unnecessary water use while also preventing the leak from becoming a larger maintenance problem.

Frequently asked questions

Why does a mixer tap leak around the handle?

One possible cause is a worn or faulty cartridge inside the mixer. In this Camberwell job, inspection showed that the laundry mixer cartridge had failed, so the mixer was replaced.

Can several plumbing leaks be repaired during one visit?

Often, yes. If you have several taps, fixtures or waste connections causing problems, tell the plumber when booking so they can assess the different issues during the visit.

What can cause a laundry trough to leak?

The source can vary. The leak may come from the tapware, waste connection, trap or connected appliance hoses. In this case, a disconnected washing machine hose and the existing waste arrangement needed attention.

Do you repair leaking taps in Camberwell?
